About the event

Join Go Farm Connect, USDA and the Renewing The Countryside Urban Ag Team for a tour of the Urban Roots facilites co-led by staff and youth! Then we'll hear about youth loans and other resources to support young people pursuing agricultural enterprises.

The purpose of this event, which will be held at Rivoli Bluff Farm in St Paul, is to showcase the work of Urban Roots in engaging youth in growing food, cooking, practicing conservation, and career exploration; and to learn about USDA’s Youth Farm Loan program as a way to support young agricultural entrepreneurs. Part of the event will be an opportunity to share about challenges, needs and opportunities for youth with the USDA staff. If you work with youth, this will be a great chance to engage with the USDA on how they can better show up to support youth programming and entrepreneurship in the Twin Cities.

Share dinner with us and get to know other leaders in the region who are working with youth in ag, and with youth who are interested in food and ag entrepreneurship.

Who Should Come:

This event is intented to be a space for youth (age 10-20) who are farming; for leaders who are engaging with youth-facing programming around farming / gardening / food entrepreneurship; organizations who facilitate youth programming, and parents of youth who are interested in USDA youth loans.

What to Expect:

Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes for the farm tour. Dinner will be served with sambusas and other local treats from Karibu. Please note on the registration form if you have dietary restrictions. Photos and videos may be taken at this event for the purpose of promoting future events and highlighting the urban ag inititives of partner organizations. By registering for this event, you give your consent to be photographed. If you need yourself or a child to be exempt from photography, please see an event organizer at the event.

About Go Farm Connect:

Are you lost in an alphabet soup of federal acronyms? Need help finding the right resources?

Navigating USDA programs can be overwhelming, confusing and intimidating. We get that! We've pulled together an experienced team of farmers to help you connect to the right programs. We offer FREE services that focus on different aspects of building a successful farm business. We can provide a Connector to be a personal guide, coach, and ally who shares your goal of running a successful farm operation.

Go Farm Connect is a farmer-led initiative to build relationships between historically underserved specialty crop farmers (beginning, women, veterans, BIPOC and new Americans) and federal farm agencies.  Our Connectors are trained to help farms of all sizes and specialties in Minnesota and Wisconsin access agricultural assistance programs. The three-year project is led by Renewing The Countryside in partnership with the US Department of Agriculture, Farm Service Agency, and Natural Resources Conservation Service. Registration through this link is helpful so that USDA staff can be aware of what questions you might want answered.
